THE STORY SO FAR:
Since 2011, Breaker has been using the design process to introduce students and educators to creative, collaborative problem-solving and entrepreneurship. We build local, national, and global challenges like food waste to lend immediacy and purpose to learning. Participants exit Breaker with new skills and abilities; products and services result from Breaker ready for impact.
Over the last two years, with support and strategic partnership from the Construct Foundation, Breaker has engaged Portland’s secondary and post-secondary students; trained teachers, administrators, and corporate executives; collaborated with local entrepreneurs, designers, and industry experts; and developed relationships with universities and local funders. The seeds have been planted; we seek a local gardener who understands the composition of the soil and the bounty it can return with the right kind of nurturing.
REMEMBER: Innovation in education requires a push/pull approach: communities have unique needs that you will need to understand and respect while also maintaining a fierce commitment to targeted outcomes. You will prototype, test, and learn. Fail forward.
